CLAVERLEY PARISH COUNCIL

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

was held on Monday, 19th April 2010 at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall

Agenda items included: The Chairmans Opening Remarks

A report by Councillor Mrs Tina Woodward on Shropshire Council matters

& Reports on: · The Parish Plan·        ‘Claverley in Bloom’·      Joint Use              Facility ·      Rights of Way      Tree Warden      Wolverhampton Airport   &          Emergency Planning

All Parish electors were invited to attend, and 50% of the residents of Lower Hopstone attended ---- YES just 3 members of the public in total. Considering the effort your Parish and Shropshire Council representatives make all year round, they certainly deserve more support from Parishioners than was shown this night.

Councillors attending were :- Chairman Rod Parr, Vice-Chair Richard Wilkes, Clerk to the Parish Council Mrs Gill Price, and Councillors - Richard Cotham, David Cook, Mrs Heather Keeling,  Mrs Mary Baird, Mrs Sally Dawes, David Harris, David Horton, Russell Stone, Paul Pickerill, David Cowie & Jim McKenzie. Also in attendance was our Shropshire Unitary Councillor Mrs Tina Woodward

Affordable Homes for rent plan for the village wins backing

Claverley parish councillors have given their seal of approval to a revised plan to build “”affordable”” homes in the village despite 12 objections from neighbours, and their own worries over the disproportionate size of the gardens. They have called for an agreement to ensure the homes are rented to local people in perpetuity. They also want the applicants to make a financial contribution to the parish council for providing local open space facilities.

The application for 7(seven) homes (4 x 2-bedroom & 3 x 3-bedroom units) has been made to Bridgnorth District Council. The development by South Shropshire Housing Association will be next to The Orchard, with a new vehicle access off Aston Lane.

Objections included claims the site is unsuitable with poor access, a lack of services, the village infrastructure is already exhausted, and it would harm the character of Claverley in the green belt.

The district council senior planning officer is recommending approval although the development will have some impact on the Green Belt. A local plan policy allows for affordable homes as one of the few cases where new buildings may be acceptable.

South Shropshire Housing Association was given permission by Bridgnorth District Council’s development control committee to build the homes with a new vehicle access on land off Aston Lane. The homes in the Green belt were given the go-ahead after councillors heard the site is the best available.

Some success has been achieved in improving safety along a stretch of road near Claverley --- the B4176 road at Upper Ludstone --- near the Poplars tearooms, the Woodman Inn, and Lee’s Farm Shop.

Shropshire County Council are erecting warning signs advising drivers of businesses in the area, new centre white lines will be painted, and side lines will also be painted between the two nearby junctions,  thereby narrowing the road.

John McSherry has been campaigning for improvements outside his Poplars tearooms for some time now, and with the help of MP Philip Dunne & local county councillor Margaret Winckler progress has been made.

The latest news (24/11/09) is that Mobile Speed Cameras are being introduced  --  Congratulations to John & Michelle McSherry and their many supporters for persisting with their campaign over the last year or so.

This must be some help to Mr & Mrs McSherry in their own fight to recover from a major local accident, and we wish them well in that regard.

We have a new CSO (Community Support Officer) covering Claverley, as well as Worfield and Alveley. Sue Eden, aged 53, has replaced Fiona Bastock-Young as the CSO for Bridgnorth Rural East area. Sue served as a Special Constable in Bridgnorth for 7 years, and she will be based at Bridgnorth Police Station.

The next meeting of the Local Joint Committee, which covers Alveley and Romsley, Astley Abbotts, Badger, Beckbury, Bridgnorth, Claverley, Kemberton, Quatt Malvern, Ryton and Grindle, Stockton, Sutton Maddock, Tasley and Worfield and Rudge will be held at Claverley Village Hall at 7pm on Wednesday 12 May.

Shropshire County PCT will be attending the meeting to talk about Bridgnorth Hospital’s Operating Theatre and a Countryside Access Officer from Shropshire Council will be there to discuss Rights of Ways issues and Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATS).

There will also be the allocation of the next round of grants and public question time where agenda items for future meetings can be raised.

Michael Hyatt, Lead Officer for Bridgnorth, Worfield, Alveley and Claverley said: “I very much hope that local people will come along to the meeting and ask any questions on issues that are of concern to them.

“We will be awarding grants to local groups and organisations from the budget that the committee holds and there will be an opportunity for people to suggest future agenda items."
