Claverley Vicar is the new Rural Dean for Bridgnorth
Our very own Rev. Simon Cawdell was recently licensed as the Rural Dean for Bridgnorth by the Bishop of Ludlow, the Rt Rev Michael Hooper, at a meeting of Bridgnorth Deanery Synod.
Rev Cawdell succeeds Bridgnorth team rector Prebendary Andy Roberts, who was thanked for his hard work for the deanery by the bishop.

Affordable Homes for rent plan for the village wins backing
Claverley parish councillors have given their seal of approval to a revised plan to build “”affordable”” homes in the village despite 12 objections from neighbours, and their own worries over the disproportionate size of the gardens. They have called for an agreement to ensure the homes are rented to local people in perpetuity. They also want the applicants to make a financial contribution to the parish council for providing local open space facilities.
The application for 7(seven) homes (4 x 2-bedroom & 3 x 3-bedroom units) has been made to Bridgnorth District Council. The development by South Shropshire Housing Association will be next to The Orchard, with a new vehicle access off Aston Lane.
Objections included claims the site is unsuitable with poor access, a lack of services, the village infrastructure is already exhausted, and it would harm the character of Claverley in the green belt.
The district council senior planning officer is recommending approval although the development will have some impact on the Green Belt. A local plan policy allows for affordable homes as one of the few cases where new buildings may be acceptable.
South Shropshire Housing Association was given permission by Bridgnorth District Council’s development control committee to build the homes with a new vehicle access on land off Aston Lane. The homes in the Green belt were given the go-ahead after councillors heard the site is the best available.

Police request for information regarding a serious accident
Fatal Road Traffic Collision 19th June 2009
Can I please ask if possible that a brief article is placed on the site relating to the above RTC which occurred on the B4176 on the 19th June 2009 at 19.30hrs. the site of the RTC was at the junction with The Woodman Inn PH. We are obviously keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information relating to it.
Can we ask that anyone with information contacts PC 3328 Ian Cole at Bridgnorth Police Station on 0300 333 3000.

Some success has been achieved in improving safety along a stretch of road near Claverley --- the B4176 road at Upper Ludstone --- near the Poplars tearooms, the Woodman Inn, and Lee’s Farm Shop.
Shropshire County Council are erecting warning signs advising drivers of businesses in the area, new centre white lines will be painted, and side lines will also be painted between the two nearby junctions, thereby narrowing the road.
John McSherry has been campaigning for improvements outside his Poplars tearooms for some time now, and with the help of MP Philip Dunne & local county councillor Margaret Winckler progress has been made.
