SHROPSHIRE SCHOOLS TO INSTALL SMARTWATER PROTECTION

The Grange School in Shrewsbury has been the first school in Shropshire to sign up to a West Mercia Constabulary campaign to beat crime by using innovative technology. The school has begun to install SmartWater, a forensically coded substance rather like DNA. It is invisible to the naked eye but glows under Ultra Violet light.

SmartWater is produced by an award winning company in Telford and can be used with the intruder alarm system or to mark property. The unique formula at each location will remain on intruders or property for months and the location of its source easily identified. UV lights will be installed in the new custody block at Shrewsbury police HQ.

SmartWater can be used to protect homes or business premises. Detective inspector Graham Edwards who is leading the Shropshire school protection project, and Pc Tim Weaver, Crime prevention officer at Shrewsbury, can provide further information.

CRIME PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP CALLS PUBLIC MEETING

The Bridgnorth Crime Prevention Partnership invites you to a public meeting at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 20 June at Castle Hall, West Castle Street, Bridgnorth.

Constable Ram Aston, one of the leading organisers, says the meeting is a chance to report on recent police and community action taken in response to local residents, businesses and organisations, and to hear views on the best way forward for further improvements.

The Partnership includes local schools, ShopWatch, PubWatch, local councillors and council officers. Town centre CCTV coverage is now operating most of the day and night. Parking is more carefully monitored, and work is being done with schools and youth groups to reduce underage drinking and antisocial behaviour.

PC Aston promises to keep the meeting short so it does not clash with coverage of the World Cup football. The Partnership looks forward to hearing your views and your suggestions for the next stages in local crime reduction.
