B4176
A comprehensive report had been obtained from the County Council giving details of personal injury accidents on the B4176 Rudge Heath to the county boundary near Long Common during the period 4 April 2001-5 April 2006. There have been 18 accidents during this five year period with 29 casualties (1 fatal, 6 serious and 11 slight). The County Council is preparing a cluster site remedial scheme and the Parish Council will continue to press for urgent action to be taken.
Parish Plan
Housing and facilities requirements were discussed at a recent meeting. The youth sub-group will be producing a ‘flyer’ inviting young people to a meeting they are hoping to arrange.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
The working group is hoping to arrange another ‘action day’ on Saturday, 20th May. An enthusiastic response to become involved in this initiative has been obtained from the residents of Griffiths Green. Sponsorship has been offered for various projects. Health and safety issues have been discussed.
Neighbourhood Watch
The importance of Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators receiving up-to-date information from the Police was discussed as it was apparent that this was not happening. The Parish Council is still trying to ascertain which areas in the parish have a co-ordinator so please let the clerk (Gill Price - 710394) know if you are serving as a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator.

JOINT USE FIELD
The Parish Council would like to remind everyone about the conditions under which the public can use the Joint Use field at the School. These rules are stipulated in the Joint Use Agreement which was drawn up when the School moved to its present location.
- · Public not admitted for joint use activities during school hours
- · The Joint Use field is closed to the public between sunset and sunrise
- · The area around the school buildings is out of bounds to the public at all times
- · No cycling, no motorised vehicles of any kind, no dogs, no golf practice
Items from the Parish Council Meeting held on 10th April 2006
Once again, the excessive speed of some motorists along the B4176 from the County boundary to Rudge Heath was the topic raised by a member of the public during the public session. This is a matter of great concern to the Parish Council and will be on the agenda for the May meeting.
The Annual Council Meeting will be held on Monday, 8th May in the school hall. The public session will commence at 7.15 p.m. so please come along and let us know if you have any matters you wish to raise.
Parish Plan
All organisations in the parish are reminded to keep the web-site updated by emailing Ian McKenzie at ian@claverley.net with any information about their organisation.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
The working group is continuing to pursue issues such as sites on which to concentrate.
Residents in Danesbrook and Griffiths Green have expressed an interest in getting involved in this important initiative – all offers of help will be gratefully received. It is hoped to hold another ‘action day’ in May.
Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual Parish Meeting held on Thursday, 30th March was well attended, although it was disappointing that younger members of the parish were not present. This annual meeting gives everyone an opportunity to hear what the Parish Council has been doing over the past year and raise any matter or ask questions. This year P.C. Neale spoke about Neighbourhood Watch and Helen Ridler, the Recycling Officer at Bridgnorth District Council gave a presentation on recycling. Please make a special effort to join us next year.
Neighbourhood Watch
The Parish Council is trying to compile an up to date list of Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators in order to see what areas do not have a representative. All coordinators are asked to contact the Clerk, Gill Price, tel. 710394.
Dog Fouling
Once again, the Parish Council would like to remind dog owners that it is an offence to allow dogs to foul pavements, foot paths etc. and they should clear up any mess made by their dogs.

Items from the Parish Council Meeting held on 13th March 2006
The dangerous crossroads at Upper Aston and the speed of traffic coming off the B4176 travelling towards Halfpenny Green were items raised by members of the public during the public session. It is hoped to obtain accident statistics to strengthen the demand for action to be taken to reduce the risk of accidents at this location.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, 10th April in the village hall (the school will be closed for the Easter holiday.) The public session will commence at 7.15 p.m. so please come along and let us know if you have any matters you wish to raise.
Parish Plan
As the Claverley web-site – www.claverley.net – is now up and running, a letter is being sent to all organisations in the parish to encourage them to keep the web-site updated by e-mailing Ian MacKenzie at ian@claverley.net with any information.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
The working group is continuing to select areas for improvement. The school will be taking part by planting out four large beds within its grounds with flowers and vegetables, sponsored by David Austin Roses. An action day will be held on Saturday, 18th March to commence work on preparing the plots for cultivation, clear up the land behind the bottle banks and to pick up litter and it is hoped there will be plenty of volunteers to help.
Annual Parish Meeting
Final arrangements for the Annual Parish Meeting on Thursday, 30th March were discussed.
In addition to P.C. Neale speaking about Neighbourhood Watch, Helen Ridler, the Recycling Officer at Bridgnorth District Council has also agreed to speak on recycling, the loss of the mobile skip and the household refuse service.
Rod Parr, the Parish Council Chairman will be attending the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Shropshire Association of Local Councils which has been called to provide information for parish and town councils to update on the future local governance in Shropshire. Is a Unitary Authority the best option? Watch this space!

Items from the Parish Council Meeting held on 13th February 2006
It was encouraging to see a good attendance by members of the public who wished to bring several items to the Council’s attention. These included the problem of vehicles becoming stuck in Danford Lane as a result of drivers using satellite navigation which indicated that it was possible to reach Claverley from the B4176 using this lane. The emergency services are to be notified this is not possible and the County Council will be erecting a warning sign. A request was made for the reinstatement of the footpath from the Boycott public house to Rudge Heath. Concern was expressed about the lanes being made wider by large agricultural vehicles and lorries and the danger of mud on the roads and objections were made to a planning application for a bungalow on the Wold.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, 13th March in the School hall. The public session will commence at 7.15 p.m. so please come along and let us know if you have any matters you wish to raise.
Parish Plan
A further meeting of the implementation group had been held. David Harris had agreed to head up the housing and facilities sub-group, Richard Cotham the environment sub-group and Sarah Cawdell the youth sub-group. A strategy was being formed to tackle the post code issue with Royal Mail.
Wolverhampton Airport
A meeting of the Consultative Committee had been held on January 12th. There had been a substantial increase in aircraft movements. A retrospective planning application had been made by Aerosport Ltd. to assemble and sell prefabricated light aircraft until April 2008.
Christmas Lights
A site meeting had been held with representatives of Central Networks and Securasound to identify a suitable location for the power source for the lights to meet the Conservation area requirements. A new Conservation Officer will shortly be starting work at the District Council and will be consulted.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
The working group had held another meeting and was continuing to select areas for improvement and looking at budgetary implications, funding and sponsors. Involvement of the community and the school would be encouraged to make this project successful.
Household Refuse
It has come to the Council’s attention that some householders are experiencing difficulties with the fortnightly emptying of the wheeled bins. To gauge how this system is working, the Council would welcome feedback from householders. Please contact the Clerk, Gill Price tel. 710394 to let us know your views. We are hoping to have a
representative from Bridgnorth District Council to speak on this subject at the Annual Parish Meeting on Thursday, 30th March.

Items from the Parish Council Meeting held on 9th January 2006
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, 13th February in the Village Hall (as the school will be closed for the half term holiday) and the public session will commence at 7.15 p.m. so please come along and let us know if you have any matters you wish to raise.
Bridgnorth Community Transport Pilot Scheme
This minibus service into Bridgnorth commenced on Thursday, 12th January. It starts from the Boycott Arms at 10 am, travelling through Upper Aston, Aston, Draycott, Heathton, Broughton, Five Ways, Danford Heath (at approx. 10.25 am), Bull Ring, Hopstone, Chyknell, Woundale, Red Lion, Sytch House Green, Beobridge arriving outside Sainsburys at approx. 11.30 am. The return journey will start two hours after arrival in Bridgnorth. To use the minibus, passengers must become a member of the transport group, which costs £2 a year, by registering with Julie Green (Co-ordinator) on 01746 768539, Viv O’Connor on 01746 713240 or Ken Arch on 07854 127441 as soon as possible. Please try and use this service as we do not want to lose it through lack of support.
The Bridgnorth District Rural Transport Partnership are also seeking volunteers, with a few hours a week to spare, to drive either a car or a Minibus on a voluntary basis. Full Minibus training, up to MIDAS standard, is provided. If you are interested please contact Ken Arch on 01746 762401.
Parish Plan
The implementation group is to be chaired by Sally Dawes who will report back each month to the Council. At the first meeting it was considered that three areas would need sub-groups i) housing and tourism, ii) environment, iii) youth and the Parish Council agreed with this suggestion.
Christmas Lights and New Year Celebrations
Councillor Richard Cotham was thanked for providing the Christmas tree and for his expertise in putting the lights on the tree.
Minor vandalism failed to detract from the overall success of the New Year’s Eve celebrations which were enjoyed by a large number of people. The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who contributed to make the evening such a success and, in particular, everyone who helped clear up on New Year’s Day.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
The working group had identified several sites which would benefit from some attention and a more detailed report will be given at the February meeting.
B4176 Claverley Junction
Just a reminder that it would be helpful if you could report any incidents of ‘near misses’ whilst waiting to turn off the B4176 to Claverley by telephoning the Clerk, Gill Price, on 710394.

Items from the Parish Council Meeting held on 12th December 2005
This month’s public session was well attended as a number of parishioners wanted to make their views known about a planning application. Don’t forget you can raise any matter during this 15 minute period so please come along if you want to let us know your feelings about anything.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, 9th January in the School and the public session will commence at 7.15 p.m.
Bridgnorth Community Transport Pilot Scheme
You will have read the article in the November issue of the Newsletter about the new ‘pilot scheme’for the Claverley area. This will provide a regular Minibus service from the rural areas of the Bridgnorth District into Bridgnorth.
The Bridgnorth District Community Transport Group would welcome feedback from the public as to which day would be the most popular for this service to run. Please contact Julie Green (Co-ordinator) on 07766 311463 or 01746 768539 or Ken Arch (Vice Chairman) on 01746 762401 as soon as possible. They are also seeking volunteers, with a few hours a week to spare, to drive either a car or a Minibus on a voluntary basis. Full Minibus training, up to MIDAS standard, is provided.
Parish Plan
The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who helped in whatever way in the preparation and distribution of the Parish Plan. Without all your hard work and dedication to this project, such a successful outcome would not have been possible.
A small sub-group, comprising four parish councillors and two non-council members has been formed to consider the implementation of the Parish Plan.
Christmas Lights
The Parish Council is extremely grateful to Colin Smithyman who has once again come to our rescue. Despite protracted discussions with Central Networks regarding a separate power supply for the lights, we were unable to achieve this in time for Advent Sunday but thanks to Colin’s co-operation in providing the power point, the lights were able to operate.
‘Claverley in Bloom’
A small working group has been formed to look at ways of enhancing the visual impact both in the village and elsewhere in the parish as the Flower Festival will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in the Summer.
B4176 Claverley Junction
The Council has been trying to get the County Council provide double white lines and a red backing to the hatched lines at this junction to try and improve safety as vehicles persist in overtaking on the hatched lines causing danger to motorists waiting to turn off the B4176.
In order to strengthen our case, it would be helpful if you could report any incidents of ‘near misses’ to the Clerk, Gill Price, on 710396.
Casual Vacancy
Mr. Paul Pickerill of Danesbrook accepted the Council’s invitation to join the Council and he was welcomed at the November meeting when he signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, 12th December in the School and the public session will commence at 7.15 p.m.
Bridgnorth Community Transport Pilot Scheme
We were pleased to welcome Viv O'Connor, the District Rural Transport Officer and Ken Arch, the Vice Chairman of the Bridgnorth District Community Transport Group and joint Co-Ordinator of the Bridgnorth Voluntary Car Scheme, who gave us details of the new minibus service from the rural areas into Bridgnorth. The service is able to call at many of the hamlets in our, and adjoining, parishes. Initially the service will be available for one day a week and will allow for a stay of about 2 hours before returning. The minibus can carry 14 passengers and the fare will be kept at a reasonable level to cover costs (it is not a profit-making scheme). The Transport Group would welcome feedback from the public as to which day would be the most popular so please contact either Ken Arch (01746 762401) or Julie Green (07766 311463). The Transport Group will be considering requests to take young people in the evening to Bridgnorth.
The Bridgnorth Voluntary Car Scheme is for anyone who does not have access to other forms of transport. The Transport Group is also appealing for drivers with a few hours a wee
